Memories of Pisa

Image
Today, as temperatures are nowhere close to where they typically would be at this time of the year, this photo from Pisa, Italy, reminds me that I don't mind 20 degrees in the summer. It was HOT that day in Pisa and I survived that heat only because I was mesmerized by all the historical beauty around me. I don't miss the heat , but I miss that magical place in beautiful Italy....

Winter, how much we (should) love you!

Image
Yes, I know...In this corner of the world, we think that winter is way too cold and lasts forever. While this may actually be true, I promised myself many years ago that I will embrace this season no matter what it takes. And while you won’t find me cross country skiing when it is -50°C, I definitely try to be outside as much as I can when the weather is a little milder. I think, in some strange way, I prefer cold winter weather to the sizzling summer heat. Some essential preparation required, but once you get out there, you don’t regret your decision. And, true fact: Hot chocolate in hand does wonders for appreciating mother earth, even when she hibernates under a white blanket of snow. I have also always admired the raw power of winter outdoor portraits. There is something magical about the light and play of shadows in the winter months. And you have a great chance to capture truly beautiful rosy cheeks and shiny eyes of the little people enjoying the beauty of this season. By the w

BOO....Happy Haloween

Image
Every single year we wait in anticipation (think of all the chocolate we will have in our house that day!).....and then it comes and.... it goes as quickly as it came. Pumpkins are tossed aside (seeds are toasted and eaten) and all of a sudden we see red hats and hear jingle bells anywhere we turn our heads. But this year Haloween created a bit of memory all on its own. It was quite a surprise that we got to celebrate this day with the first snow of the season. My memory may need some help from Ginkgo Biloba, but I certainly can't remember a Haloween when it would be possible to make a huge wampire-snowman the morning of the BOO Day. So, to make sure I remember this day for a few days, I got dressed in my winter coat, put on my winter boots and headed outside to capture this wonderfully different day. And, indeed, it was quite special. Hope you had an Xtra Special Haloween this year, too!
